4th of July is right around the corner.  And you likely have it all planned out already.  You might be going out of town for a family reunion.  Or maybe you’re having family and friends at your house.  But whatever the situation may be, here are a few last minute Fourth of July entertaining ideas for your get-together.

Plant a Patriotic Flowerbed

One of the best ways to display some red, white, and blue is with colorful landscaping that reflects your spirit.  Or by designing patriotic arrangements which can be set on your porch.  They could also be placed on the patio, a balcony, and even in a hanging basket.

And you can find different types of containers to accomplish this.  From traditional planters to stylish urns, including various materials, there’s sure to be something to help you prepare your yard for the holiday.  Also, some home improvement centers have pre-made designs that eliminate any doubts about this you might have.

Some options for flowers are pansies and petunias, which come in all 3 colors:  red, white, and blue.  However, typically there aren’t issues when looking for red and white blooms.  Although, blue flowers are a different matter, because there aren’t many navy blue ones.  Most blue blossoms are really purple or light blue.

Cue the Lights

Good lighting is essential to creating the right atmosphere.  And no summer party is complete without the perfect outdoor lighting.  String lights, rope lights, and lanterns are just a few of the kinds that help make any celebration festive.  Though there are many more available.

But at the end of the day all that really matters is what type you prefer.  Since the 4th of July is almost upon us, you might just want something uncomplicated.  And string lights are fairly easy to install and come in a huge variety themselves.  They also look amazing pretty much anywhere.  So, you can’t really go wrong with that option.

Comfortable Seating

Hosting a social gathering requires welcoming furniture.  A patio table with chairs, wicker sofa, and even a chaise lounge with plenty of cushions offers an inviting aspect to any outdoor venue.

And you don’t even have to buy something new for your big event unless you want to.  You can dress up what you currently own.  Or pick up some things at a thrift store and re-purpose them.

And by adding a red, white, and blue tablecloth with some matching dinnerware to your patio table, your table setting will almost be ready.  But if you don’t have a patio table, not to worry.  You can always use a blanket and make it a picnic.

Cool Things Off

If you have a pool, you can get it prepped for your get-together.  Though if you don’t, you could purchase some misters to keep things comfortable during the day.

Also, putting up an awning, canopy, or an umbrella is a necessity if you don’t have much shade in your backyard.  However, if you have a pergola or a covered patio, installing a fan is another great way to cool off if you don’t have a pool.  Or you might even think about misting fans.

Keep it Cozy

When the sun sets, light a fire pit or other outdoor fireplace.  Fire pits and fireplaces provide the perfect ambiance that will only complement the exterior lighting you already set up.  And if you have kids around, they can make s’mores.

Also, fire pits and fireplaces can be used to discourage mosquitoes from bothering you and your guests.  You can read this for more information.
