The history of Valentine’s Day seems to have some pagan, Roman, and Christian origins. In addition, the stories all center around love. But no one really knows for certainty the genuine beginnings. Although, around the 1300s, February 14 began being associated with love. It was believed that mating season for birds started on that day. However, as early as the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as Valentine’s Day. Additionally, in the 1840s, Valentine’s began being mass produced.
Also, this is the day when people typically send flowers, cards, or confections to others. And often they’re combined with declarations of love. Today Americans spend more on jewelry than any other category for Valentine’s Day. But who says you can’t give something functional as well, that you’ll both get to enjoy?
